King Cruiser Wreck – Shark Point – Koh Doc Mai
3 Dives
The King Cruiser Wreck is one of the most popular dive sites in Phuket and the Andaman Sea. The wreck is an old ferry for cars and passengers, 85 meters long and 25 meters wide. The King Cruiser Ferry sank in 1997 after colliding with coral anemones.
The wreck is now at a depth of 33 meters on a sandy bottom and is still in very good condition, but the eruption is no longer certain. The marine life around the King Cruiser Wreck is great with lots of yellow barracuda tails and coral. There are also plenty of scorpionfish so be careful when diving around them. The currents can be strong at times and visibility is not always good. This dive site can get crowded during peak season.
Shark Point, also known as Hin Musang, is a small rocky outcrop marine reserve located between Phuket and the Phi Phi Islands. One of the most popular dive sites around Phuket, Shark Point is known for its resident leopard sharks and moray eels.
Shark Point consists of a series of coral pinnacles that rise from a 20 meter high sandy bottom to 3 to 4 meters above the surface. These coral pinnacles are covered in soft corals and are home to a variety of tropical marine life.
The site is home to colorful soft corals, sea fans and a variety of reef fish. The name “Shark Point” comes from the occasional sightings of leopard sharks and the abundance of bamboo and nurse sharks at this location.
Koh Doc Mai is a limestone island known for its sheer walls that plunge into the depths. The walls are covered in soft corals, gorgonians and anemones, providing a scenic backdrop for divers. The site is also home to a variety of marine life including nudibranchs, moray eels and schooling fish.
The east side is a wall dive with a depth of 25 to 30 meters. The wall is covered with tube corals and sea fans. There are underwater caves and a variety of schools of fish.
The west side gradually drops from 3 to 25 meters. There are large barrel sponges and moray eels are often sighted.
Prerequisite for divers “PADI Open Water Advanced” or “CMAS 2”.
